Does Your beautyRegime Include Gratitude? Five Simple Steps to Feeling Beautiful
When life is serving up more challenges than what seems fair, and you feel beaten down my the day, ask yourself, does your beautyregime include gratitude? If you follow these five simple steps, you will experience a beauty, and sense of fulfillment that is beyond what a face-lift will offer, at least more long term.
We live in a culture that values superficial beauty, and youth. Young girls begin early feeling ugly, comparing themselves to their peers, identifying with what the media offers, images that further the gap between what we look like versus what we are supposed to look like. I'm suggesting we spend a few moments every night checking into our inner world, where a whole treasure chest of beautyresides, and discover true beauty.
1. Every night, sit and breathe without effort and ask yourself, what happened today? Let the scenes of the day scroll by, focus on the exchanges that were effortless. Maybe somebody smiled at you as you walked by. Watch the scenes as if watching a movie. Let the players reveal themselves. Feel the impressions in your body, and let the feeling of gratitude permeate your heart.
2. As you scroll and say thank you, silently to yourself, to those who have impacted you, begin to take in your surroundings. If your at home, say thank you for your home. If you have heat, and it's cold out, say thank you for the heat. If you have food in your belly, say thank you for the nourishment. If you have a car, or don't have a car, say thank you for the transportation to get to one place to another. Say thank you for your neighbors, thank you to the mailman. As you do this, your mind does a very interesting thing. It begins to recall every little thing. Remember the sunlight, or the trees, or the butterflies. Say thank you.
3. Now, begin to go deeper, and recall the difficult interactions, or instances of the day, where the mind and heart felt challenged. Maybe feelings of anger, disgust, greed, or envy came up. Feel into what happened, and see the face of the person, or feel the incident, and as hard as it may be, say thank you. These emotions, people, incidences are your greatest teachers. They show you where growth is necessary. These are the fuel for real change in our lives.
4. Let the feeling of gratitude fill you up, everywhere in your body. You will see how this will impact your next interaction with the same people, the same incidents, should they occur again. If they do, remember they are your teachers. Say thank you to them right then and there.
5. Spend moments doing this every night, before going to bed, and you will sleep well. And over time, your relationships will begin to change, you will change, your whole environment will change.
And, when somebody asks, "Does your beautyregime include gratitude?" You can answer, 'Why, yes it does. How did you know?' You will look and feel more beautiful than you can ever could have imagined. No matter how the day goes, look back and remember everything is our teacher, everything has the opportunity to open our hearts and teach us something about ourselves. You will see, people will begin to respond to you differently.
We will never look like what the magazines tell us to look like, but we will look and feel like ourselves, and that bountiful treasure chest of beautythat resides within us will shine and impact everybody around us. You will see.
